The 2023 Asia-Oceania Anti-Doping Education Symposium in Singapore

Date: 26th-27th July 2023
Place: Singapore

The 2023 Asia-Oceania Anti-Doping Education Symposium was held in Singapore on 26th to 27th July, and Singapore branch chief Shihan Patrick Teo and Ms. Arisu Nakamura attended.
Shihan Patrick Teo attended on representation of the WKO, as he is a member of the WKO’s Anti-Doping Committee.
The symposium was jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) and Southeast Asia Regional Anti-Doping Organisation (SEARADO) to provide an international platform for promoting the role of education in the protection of clean sport.
‘It was a grand atmosphere’, Shihan Patrick Teo reported.
‘It started with an opening speech by Mr. Edwin Tong, Minister for Culture, Community & Youth and 2nd Minister for Law of Singapore. The participants were from Asia Oceania region delegated from Anti-Doping organizations and sports related organizations.’
‘The panelists also were interesting, from the World Anti-Doping Association (WADA), UNESCO, International Testing Agency, Sports SG (major Singapore governmental sports organization).’
It will be significant that WKO was invited to participate in such a symposium.
As an international sports federation, WKO has a responsibility to play clean and fair sport, but it is also very important to protect the health and rights of its athletes.

Shihan Patrick Teo is reported as saying ‘As a member of the Anti-Doping Committee, I personally think that teamwork is very important. It is not about winning, it should be fair game to all players.’
For the Karateka who train hard every day and for the further development of the organization, as WKO we will continue to actively participate in such learning opportunities.
